Description
The Market Arcade, which includes entrance blocks on Market Street and High Street, is a building that features 17 shops. It has a glass roof supported by wooden kingpost trusses, and the upper floors of the shops are designed with splayed bay windows and sash glazing. A bridge with iron railings connects across the arcade.
The entrance block on Market Street is three storeys high with four windows. It is constructed of red brick with bathstone bands, and the shopfronts on either side of the entrance have been altered. The entrance block on High Street is four storeys tall with five windows and has a stucco front. The central bay features a swan neck pediment and an oval window on the top floor, positioned above a broad two-storey splayed bay window on the first and second floors. The outer bays have semi-circular windows on the top floor, situated above narrower two-storey splayed bay windows. On the ground floor, there is the entrance to the arcade, along with altered shopfronts on each side.
