Description
Newport Arcade is a building designed in the French Renaissance style, constructed from Bathstone with a slate mansard roof. It stands three storeys high, plus an attic, and features three bays. The central attic dormer contains two arched windows, while the flanking dormers each have a single window. On the second floor, there are three camber-headed windows in the central bay and two arched windows in the outer bays, with a balustrade at sill level. The first floor has splayed oriel windows in the outer bays, which have curved inner faces that recess into the entrance of the arcade below; there is also a sill balustrade and an archway leading into the arcade. The ground floor has a restored shop front on either side. The arcade extends through to Cambrian Street and features a wooden king post roof that is glazed. There are twelve two-storey shops flanking the arcade, with an upper storey splayed bay window on the south side. On the north side, there are iron railings leading to a gallery, and a bridge towards the west end is also enclosed by iron railings.
