Description

The east gates, piers, and flanking walls of St Woolos Cemetery are notable features from the 20th century. The carriage gates on the right consist of plain iron gates, accompanied by octagonal piers on either side. These piers are constructed from red rubble sandstone with grey sandstone detailing and feature broach stops. They have short upper stages topped with blunt pyramidal copings. To the left, there is a pedestrian gate with a smaller, similar pier and gate. The wall to the right of the carriage gate is made of rubble with grey sandstone long-and-short copings, extending for approximately 1 metre before splaying out to align with the pavement and connect to the main cemetery boundary. The left wall also splays out from the left pier to the line of the pavement.
