Description
The Main Lodge at St Woolos Cemetery is a Gothic-style building that complements the entrance gate. It is two storeys high and constructed from red rubble sandstone with Bathstone detailing. The roofs are covered with clay tiles and feature deep eaves, while a yellow brick chimney stack is located on the ridge to the northeast. All the glazing has been replaced with plastic. The building has a roughly T-shaped plan, with gabled wings facing south and east; the south wing ends in a small hip. Both wings have chamfered corners with broach stops above and below. The south wing includes a canted bay window on the ground floor, and the first floor features paired trefoiled lights with a central colonette, set within a trefoil-shaped Bathstone surround. The east wing has a similar window on the first floor with three trefoiled lights below. At the angle between the east and south wings, the roof slopes down over an altered roughcast porch that has a 20th-century door facing east. The west wing has a slightly taller ridge line, ending in angled hips over the canted end, with the eaves line of the angled hips interrupted by two plain windows. There are also plain windows on the north side, along with a gabled dormer.
