Description

The Ruperra Gates, located to the northeast of Tredegar House, are a pair of 19th-century brick gate piers. Each pier features a projecting, heavily moulded entablature adorned with dentils, which support carved stone beasts that represent the griffin and lion rampant of the Morgan Family. These creatures each hold a scrolled armorial shield. The gates are flanked by upswept, spearheaded wrought-iron railings that are set into simple cast-iron piers. These railings support a pair of plain, upswept wrought-iron gates, which exhibit ogee and barley twist detailing. Dwarf brick walls topped with Bathstone copings, along with similar railings, enclose the northeast courtyard.
