Description

51 Bridge Street is a late Georgian building with a later shopfront, featuring accommodation above and a substantial extension to the rear. The exterior is rendered and painted, topped with a very shallow-pitched slate roof that has an eaves cornice. The building stands two storeys high and has a four-window range of 4-pane sash windows set in recessed surrounds with sills on the first floor. The ground floor showcases a plate glass shopfront with slender mullions and supporting cast iron piers behind it. There is a central recessed front doorway with an overlight and double-part-glazed doors. On either side, panelled pilasters frame wide doorways: to the right is a 6-panelled door with an overlight, and to the left are double doors leading to a former carriage entrance, which has ventilation bars above. The interior has been replanned and extended, and the original front entrance is no longer in use.
