Description

Nos. 47 and 49 Bridge Street is a fine former townhouse that has been converted into offices. The building is rendered and painted, topped with a slate roof featuring broad overhanging eaves that are bracketed and boarded. It has a double-pile plan and stands three storeys tall. The façade includes a five-window range of 12-pane sash windows set in reveals with narrow glazing bars and shallow sills.

The central doorway is highlighted by a bracketed entablature hood and flanked by reeded pilasters. It features panelled reveals and a recessed six-panelled door with polygonal glazing above. To the right of the doorway are two similar sash windows, while to the left is a tripartite sash window and a four-panelled door at the left end, which has a plain overlight. The building has a deep painted plinth and sturdy iron railings with arrow-head finials, along with swept double gates on a stone kerb that extend from the right end to the left side of the central doorway.

An attached rough-cast wall on the right side includes an arched carriage entrance that leads to a former yard at the rear. The side elevation, which now faces the path, features similar tripartite sash windows, with additional sash windows located at the rear.

Inside, there is a central hallway that extends to a staircase rising towards the rear. The staircase is adorned with stick balusters, a ramped handrail, and a staircase window with panelled reveals and shutters. There are margin-glazed double doors leading to the rear of the hall, along with a bracketed plaster arch in the hall. Six-panelled doors with architraves complete the interior features.
