Description
No. 37 Old Market Street is a Georgian fronted town-house that is attached to buildings on either side and is set back from number 35. The exterior is cement-rendered with channelled rustication and channelled voussoirs at the ground floor. It has a slate roof that includes a gabled dormer behind a parapet with coping, which is continuous with number 39, and features tall brick end stacks. The house has two storeys and an attic, with a single window range that includes a small 9-pane sash window in the dormer and a 12-pane segmental-headed horned sash window with narrow glazing bars in shallow reveals on the first floor. The ground floor has a large 3-light window from the 20th century, and to the right, there is a deeply recessed round-headed doorway with a 6-panel door and a fanlight featuring radial glazing. The property is also adorned with slender iron railings and a gate that have urn and spoon finials, set on a stone kerb. Inside, the house is reported to retain an early stone fireplace.
