43 North Parade

This is a late Georgian terraced building, dating from the late 18th century, forming a group of six properties. The frontages are painted render, scribed stucco and roughcast, with a two-storey and attic element to number 43. The ground floors are rusticated and channelled, and the detailing varies between properties including quoins and end pilaster strips, with a first-floor cill band present on all but number 43. The roofs are slate, with bracket eaves; numbers 41 and 43 have a raised gabled front and tiled cresting. Chimney stacks are of brick and cement render. The windows are horned sash windows, with architraves to numbers 35, 37, and 39. Two and three-storey splayed bay windows are located to the left of the entrances, featuring cornices and panelled aprons. Number 33 has a two-storey oriel window over the entrance. Number 43 has a single attic window above the bay window, with a particularly ornate apron. The doorcases are plain Doric style and raised at number 41. Number 35 features bobbin beading and number 37 has a Victorian half-glazed porch, while number 43 has a Gothick porch. Most doors are half-glazed, except for number 33, which has a four-panel door, and number 43, incorporating Gothick cusped panelled double doors and a matching fanlight. Number 35 retains its original Georgian fanlight. Cellar openings are boarded at numbers 41 and 43. Iron railings remain in front, particularly at number 43, featuring baluster-shaped newel posts. Inside number 43, the entrance hall retains a pointed arch carried on paired columns.
