Description
22 North Parade is part of a terraced group of late Georgian buildings, featuring three stories and an attic. The front of No 20 is finished in scribed render, while Nos 22 to 26 are made of coursed rubble. Nos 20 to 24 have two windows each, while No 26 has three. No 20 showcases a channelled ground floor with end pilaster strips, a cill band, and a plinth. No 22 features brick voussoirs and a bay window. The roofs are slate, with bracket eaves that are higher at No 20 and slightly lower at No 26, along with rubble chimney stacks. Pitched roof dormers are present on Nos 20, 24, and 26, with the dormer on No 20 being broad and featuring paired sash windows. Nos 24 and 26 have bargeboards and finials, with No 25 displaying more ornate details.
Nos 20 and 22 both have three-storey splayed bay windows with dentil cornices, while No 20 also has pediments on the first and ground floors and lugged architraves on the right. The sash windows at Nos 20 and 22 lack glazing bars, while Nos 24 and 26 have small pane sashes, including a tripartite window at No 24. All the buildings maintain fine doorcases; No 20 has a bowed Doric doorcase with a wide cornice and an entablature frieze supported by fluted columns. Nos 22 to 26 feature Ionic doorcases with entablature friezes and fluted columns at No 26. The entrances have panelled reveals and double doors, except for No 24, which has half-glazed doors. Traceried fanlights are present at Nos 20, 24, and 26.
The interiors of Nos 24 and 26 are particularly noteworthy. No 24 features paired Doric columns that support the arch to an oval stairwell. No 26 has a panelled stairwell arch accessed through an entrance hall adorned with plaster ornamentation of fleur de lys and foliage trails on the ceiling, with similar detailing on the underside of the staircase. Both interiors retain reeded doorcases and have been converted for use as a surgery.
