Description
24 North Parade is a terraced group of late Georgian buildings featuring three stories and attic fronts. The building at No 20 has scribed render, while Nos 22 to 26 are constructed from coursed rubble. Nos 20 to 24 have two windows each, while No 26 has three. No 20 showcases a channelled ground floor with end pilaster strips, a cill band, and a plinth. No 22 features brick voussoirs and a bay window. The slate roofs have bracket eaves that are higher at No 20 and slightly lower at No 26, with rubble chimney stacks. Pitched roof dormers are present at Nos 20, 24, and 26, with the dormer at No 20 being broad and featuring paired sash windows. Nos 24 and 26 have bargeboards and finials, with No 25 having more ornate details.
Nos 20 and 22 include three-storey splayed bay windows with dentil cornices and pediments on the first and ground floors of No 20, which also has lugged architraves to the right. Sash windows without glazing bars are found at Nos 20 and 22, while Nos 24 and 26 have small pane sashes, including a tripartite window at No 24. All buildings retain fine doorcases; No 20 has a bowed Doric doorcase with a wide cornice and entablature frieze supported by fluted columns. Nos 22 to 26 feature Ionic doorcases with entablature friezes and fluted columns at No 26. The interiors of Nos 24 and 26 are particularly fine, with No 24 featuring paired Doric columns supporting the arch to the oval stairwell. No 26 has a panelled stairwell arch accessed from an entrance hall adorned with fleur de lys and foliage trail plaster ornament on the ceiling, which is echoed in the staircase's underside. Both interiors retain reeded doorcases and have been converted for surgery use.
