Description

39 and 41 New Market Street are a pair of late Georgian cottages. They are roughcast rendered and painted, topped with a slate roof that features a long and narrow brick stack at the center. The cottages are two storeys high. Each cottage has a two-window range of 16-pane sash windows on the first floor, while the ground floor features a shallow bowed 20-pane window that includes single pane opening casements. There is a plinth, and the doorways are located at the right and left ends of the cottages. The side elevation of Newmarket Cottage is attached to the Kings Head Hotel on Old Market Street, which has an asymmetrical design with 16-pane sashes on each floor and a narrow side door.
