Description
Nos. 22–26 Merthyr Road are a row of three double-depth houses, built in the 19th century. The building is constructed with very roughly coursed and squared sandstone rubble, with red brick dressings, and has a natural slate roof with red brick stacks. The central house, No. 24, projects slightly forward, featuring a wide, plain gable over its two upper windows. The entrances to the end houses, Nos. 22 and 26, are located in the return elevations, while the entrance to No. 24 is under the forward-projecting gable. Each house has two window bays, and the end houses have blind walling in the outer bays on the ground floor. Ground floor windows have slightly cambered heads. The ground floor of the central house features a sash window with 8 over 8 panes to the left, and a gabled porch with trellised sides and a 6-panelled door with the two top panels glazed to the right. The end houses each have a tripartite sash window with 6 over 6 panes flanked by 3 over 3 panes in the inner bays. The first floor windows are six over 6 pane sashes in segmental-headed openings. The roof has a low pitch, with a shared stack on each party wall. The return elevations each have a narrow first-floor window and a modern gabled porch on the ground floor, leading to a 6-panelled door; No. 26 has a rectangular fanlight with tracery above its door. The rear elevation was not inspected. The interior was not inspected during a recent survey.
