Description

Nos. 28 and 30 Merthyr Road is a house featuring local sandstone rubble walls with red brick dressings and a natural slate roof topped with a brick stack. The building has a rectangular double-depth plan and entrances located on the outside of the pair. The front elevations are two storeys high with a cellar, each consisting of two bays. There are short flights of steps leading to pedimented wooden doorcases that have panelled pilasters, fielded panelled reveals, rectangular fanlights, and six-panelled doors, some of which include fielded panels. The sash windows have eight panes over eight panes below and six panes over six panes above. The hipped roof of the pair has a shared brick stack in the centre.

The property includes two small forecourts separated by a red brick dividing wall, which is enclosed at the outer ends and along the street by brick walls with coping. There are low and slender contemporary railings with uprights featuring peaked finials set in a diamond pattern. The wall to No. 30 is rendered, and there are short flights of steps from the street to the forecourt on either side of the dividing wall.

The return wall is painted and has two sash windows on the ground floor and one above. The rear elevation has not been inspected. The interior was not inspected during the resurvey.
