24 Merthyr Road

24 Merthyr Road is part of a row of three houses, numbered 22 to 26, built from very roughly coursed and squared sandstone rubble with red brick detailing. The houses have a natural slate roof and red brick stacks. This two-storey row is double depth, with No. 24 slightly projecting forward and featuring a wide plain gable above its two upper windows. The entrance to No. 24 is located under the gable, while the entrances to the end houses, Nos. 22 and 26, are on the return elevations. Each house has two window bays, with the end houses displaying blind walling in the outer bays on the ground floor.

The ground floor windows have slightly cambered heads. No. 24 features a sash window with 8 over 8 panes to the left and a gabled porch with trellised sides and a 6-panelled door, the top two panels of which are glazed, to the right. The end houses each have a tripartite sash window with 6 over 6 panes, flanked by 3 over 3 panes in the inner bays. On the first floor, there are six over six pane sash windows in segmental headed openings. The roof is plain with a low pitch and has a shred stack on each party wall. Each return elevation has a narrow window on the first floor and a modern gabled porch on the ground floor leading to a 6-panelled door; No. 26 also features a rectangular fanlight with tracery. The rear elevation and interior were not inspected during the resurvey.
