Description

This is a row of four terraced houses, Nos. 2-8 (even) Merthyr Road, built to a double-depth plan. The houses are roughcast rendered with natural slate roofs. They are three storeys high and present an eight-window front, although each house has only one window on the ground floor. The front doors are six-panel doors set within light architraves, each topped with a small pediment supported by console brackets. The ground-floor windows are sash windows with 8 over 8 panes, the first-floor windows have 6 over 6 panes, and the top-floor windows have 3 over 6 panes. Number 2 has a 2 over 2 pane sash window on the ground floor; number 4 has 2 over 2 pane sash windows throughout; number 6 retains its original windows; and number 8 has late 20th-century hardwood casement windows on the ground and first floors, with the top floor retaining sash windows. The roof is hipped, with shared brick stacks located between numbers 2 and 4, and between numbers 6 and 8. Original low spiked railings and gates run along the entire front terrace. The rear elevation was not inspected, and the interior remains unseen after a recent resurvey.
