Description
This is a row of four terraced houses, Nos. 2-8 (even) Merthyr Road, likely dating from the 18th century. They are rendered with a roughcast finish and have natural slate roofs. The houses are built with a double-depth plan, meaning the entrances are located on the outside of the end houses and paired in the centre of the terrace. Each house has three storeys and originally eight windows across the entire terrace frontage, though each house has only one window on the ground floor. The front doors are six-panel doors set within light architraves, topped with small pediments supported by console brackets. The windows are predominantly sash windows: the ground floor windows have 8 over 8 panes, the first floor windows have 6 over 6 panes, and the top floor windows have 3 over 6 panes. House No. 2 has a 2 over 2 pane sash window on the ground floor; House No. 4 has 2 over 2 pane sashes throughout; House No. 6 retains its original windows; and House No. 8 has late 20th-century hardwood casement windows, except for the top floor window. The roof is hipped, with shared brick stacks positioned on the walls between houses Nos. 2 and 4 and between Nos. 6 and 8. The terrace retains its probably original low spiked railings and gates along the front. The rear elevation was not inspected, and the interior remains unrecorded from a recent survey.
