Description
56 Cross Street is a three-storey building with a smooth rendered and painted front and a natural slate roof. It has a double depth plan with the entrance located on the left side. The ground floor features a recessed central entry shopfront that includes a panelled stall-riser and plate glass display windows. To the left of the shopfront is a two vertical panel house door with a transom light above it, and there is a deep fascia spanning the entire width of the building. The first-floor window has had its cill raised and consists of a 2 over 2 pane sash; there is a similar smaller window on the floor above. A photograph from around 1900 indicates that both windows originally had keyed heads. The building has a moderate pitch plain roof with a red brick stack on the right gable. The rear elevation has not been inspected. The interior has not been inspected during the resurvey, except for the ground floor shop, which has few visible historic features.
