Description
The gateway next to Monmouth Lodge is a carriage gateway that includes flanking pedestrian gates and attached side walls. It is constructed from dressed stone and features wrought-iron gates. The gateway is marked by a pair of square gate piers that stand approximately 3 meters high, showcasing chamfered corners, banded rustication, dentilled cornices, and swept caps topped with ball finials. Each pier has a short screen wall on its outer side, which contains a segmental-arched pedestrian gateway adorned with two orders of moulding and a dentilled gabled parapet. The main carriage gateway is equipped with a pair of large barred gates that display heraldic ornamentation in the center, including the monogram "Ll" and intricate scrolled cresting. Each pedestrian gateway features a single barred gate with dogbars, embellished with a band of scrolled circles and lyre-shaped decoration on the upper panels. Additionally, the front face of each screen wall is complemented by a low convex quadrantal balustraded side wall.
