Description
Croft-y-bwla is a two-storey square villa from the 19th century, featuring smoothly rendered elevations that mimic ashlar, likely over local rubblestone, and topped with Welsh slate roofs. The building has service wings and an added conservatory, with three-storey wings and an attached two-storey house.
The entrance elevation faces east and includes three windows: ground floor sashes with 6 over 9 panes on either side of a central porch supported by two partly fluted Doric columns. Above the porch is a cast iron balcony. The first floor has six over six pane sashes, and all windows, except for the right ground floor window, have sliding louvred shutters. The roof is hipped with deep eaves and large stacks positioned at the back.
The garden elevation to the south is mostly hidden by conifers but features a two-storey canted bay window at the center. An open iron verandah used to extend along this side, though it is now partially damaged as of June 2004. The sash windows are consistent with those on the entrance elevation.
The west elevation is partially obscured by the service wing and the Victorian conservatory, with the upper floor displaying two 6 over 6 pane sashes and two blind panels. The north elevation appears as three storeys in part, showcasing the main stair windows. To the right is a two-storey wing, and to the left is an attached two-storey cottage with three windows that faces the entrance court. This cottage features sash windows, a hipped roof, and a large chimney, though it is largely covered by creeper.
During the resurvey, only the entrance hall was observed. This hall is centrally planned and has five doors leading off it, along with a top-lit staircase. The doors likely provide access to the Morning Room, Dining Room, Staircase, Drawing Room, and either a Library or Music Room.
