Description
The gateway and gates at the north entrance to Gyrn Castle are a castellated structure made of cyclopean rubble stone, featuring flanking walls and a turret. The main gateway has a wide pointed segmental arch with three orders of chamfer. It is adorned with double wrought iron gates that have round panels and twisted rails for the dog bars. The main railings are topped with trident finials. A round turret on the left side adds an asymmetrical touch to the design. Both the front and rear of the gateway have projecting segmental-headed doorways beneath a gablet with a stepped apex and a relief panel. The pedestrian gate mirrors the design of the main gates. The lower castellated flanking walls curve outward towards the road. On the right side of the main gateway, behind the flanking wall, there is a segmental arch that connects to North Lodge.
