Description

Sanroyd House is a three-storey, double-fronted, double-depth house dating from the 18th century. It has a stucco front with bands at the first and second floors, a modillion cornice, and a Welsh slate roof with buff brick stacks. The main façade is three windows wide. The windows are tripartite sashes; the second floor windows are smaller than those above. A central doorway is flanked by tripartite windows with 6 over 6 pane sashes on the ground floor, with 2 over 2 panes to the sides. The doorway has a broken pediment supported by brackets, an arched top with a fanlight, and a 6-panel door, the two centre panels glazed. The first floor features a single 6 over 6 pane sash above the door. The second floor has a plain 3 over 3 sash flanked by tripartite ones, with 3 over 3 panes flanked by 1 over 1. Tall brick stacks are located on each gable. The rear elevation was not visible.

A subsequent inspection only revealed the ground floor and staircase. The interior has been altered in the 19th and 20th centuries but retains a centrally placed, top-lit staircase with stick balusters, a continuous mahogany handrail, and a curtail.
