Description
Model Cottage is a mid- to late-19th century, L-plan, 1½-storey cottage constructed from coursed sandstone rubble with red tiled roofs. The main range consists of two units positioned at right angles to the road, with a single-unit wing set back on the east side. The front gable wall of the main range features a chamfered drip-band over the ground floor, which is terminated at the left end but continues around the right side. There is a shallow rectangular 5-light oriel window at the ground floor with a monopitched roof, along with a 5-light casement window on the upper floor and trefoil-pierced barge-boarding.
On the left side, there is a square side-wall chimney and a 2-light casement window on each floor located behind the chimney. The right side has a gabled half-dormer with a 1-light window. The roof of the side wing slopes down in a catslide manner, creating a continuous canopy that shelters a doorway near the junction, which has been moved from its original position in the left wall. This doorway features a board door with ornamental strap hinges. A tall side-wall chimneystack rises through the catslide roof.
