Description
Nos. 19 and 21 Market Street is a building with a rendered and painted front, likely partly timber framed and featuring a stone rear wall, topped with a natural slate roof. This single depth plan house has a continuous jetty and is now divided into two properties. It stands two storeys high with an attic and consists of three bays, arranged as one bay on the left and two on the right. The ground floor projects over the pavement, supported by five iron posts, with the leftmost post also serving No. 23. The ground floor features plain panelled doors and 20th-century small paned shopfronts.
On the first floor, there is a 2 + 2 pane casement window with a dripmould on the left, which is part of the design of the adjoining No. 23. In the centre, there is a 3 + 3 pane casement, and on the right, a 3-light casement window retains its original timber mullions, although the exterior mouldings have been removed. The steeply pitched roof has three dormers with sloping tops, featuring slated cheeks and 2 + 2 pane casement windows, along with rebuilt red brick stacks. The rear elevation has not been inspected. The interior was not inspected during the resurvey, except for the ground floor shop, which has few visible historic features.
