Description
Nos. 19 and 21 Market Street is a two-storey and attic building, likely dating from the 18th century, with a rendered and painted front that may include some timber framing and a stone rear wall. It has a natural slate roof and features a single depth plan continuous jetty house that has been divided into two properties. The ground floor projects over the pavement, supported by five iron posts, with the leftmost post also serving No. 23. The ground floor has plain panelled doors and 20th-century small paned shopfronts.
On the first floor, there is a 2 + 2 pane casement window with a dripmould on the left, which is part of the design of the adjoining No. 23. In the center, there is a 3 + 3 pane casement window, and on the right, a 3-light casement window retains its original timber mullions, although the exterior mouldings have been removed. The steeply pitched roof features three sloping topped dormers with slated cheeks and 2 + 2 pane casement windows, along with rebuilt red brick stacks. The rear elevation has not been inspected.
The interior was not inspected during the resurvey, except for the ground floor shop, which has few visible historic features.
