Description
The Granary and Barn at The Hendre is a substantial farm range dating from the 17th century, featuring an L-shaped layout that includes a barn and an attached granary. The building is constructed of painted rubble stone and has a slate roof.
The northern front has a broad central cart opening. To the left, the barn's ground floor features a six-light diamond mullion window, while the first floor has a four-light diamond window supported by wooden stanchions. To the right, the northern gable of the granary includes an upper 20th-century casement window with one-over-one panes, and on the ground floor, there are two similar windows with timber lintels.
On the southern elevation, the gable of the granary is to the left and has a stone inscribed with the initials J and M A, dated 1751. Below this, there is a 20th-century casement window in a camber-headed opening, and on the ground floor, a stone stair leads up to a camber-headed doorway with 20th-century glazed double doors. To the right of the gable, set back at the far end of the yard, is the southern side of the barn. The southern wall of the barn has a first-floor 20th-century casement window and a ground floor doorway with a boarded door.
The long eastern wall of the granary faces into the yard and features four segmental arched voussoired windows with 20th-century one-over-one pane casements on the first floor, and a broader voussoired opening with 20th-century glazed doors on the ground floor. Under the cart opening, the upper walls are timber framed with three tall posts and 20th-century glazing, while the ground floor has a flat-headed doorway with a boarded door.
Access to the interior was limited at the time of resurvey, but it was noted that the interior formerly had two upper floors.
