Description
The Welch Regimental War Memorial is a tall obelisk made of coursed rock-faced sandstone, standing on a deep square base and a stepped stone plinth. It features polished granite inscription panels. On the west side of the base, which overlooks the town, there is a large panel dedicated to the Great War, while smaller panels on the other faces commemorate regimental campaigns in Palestine, Egypt, and Gallipoli. Below the main panel, there is a smaller panel dedicated to the Second World War. The base is adorned with a moulded freestone cornice. The west face of the obelisk also has a large inscription panel that includes the regimental badge in relief.
The memorial is situated on a square raised platform surrounded by a dwarf rock-faced retaining wall, which is topped with cast iron railings and double gates. There are approach steps leading to the west side. An outer fence made of galvanised metal features original cast iron double gates that bear the inscription "The fifth battalion the Welch Regiment."
