Description
The War Memorial is located in a wooded glade, overlooking the Cynon valley and the town of Mountain Ash. It features a copper alloy figure sculpture mounted on a rectangular granite pier with a battered plinth, which is set on three shallow steps. Each face of the pier has a recessed rectangular metal bas-relief depicting figures representing the Army, Navy, Airforce, and a nurse, all in mourning positions with their arms reversed. Below these bas-reliefs are applied metal lettering inscription panels. At the top of the pier stands a life-size statue of a female martial figure in classical costume, holding a weapon, with the representation of a defeated enemy beneath her feet.
