Stable Block to Fairwater Conservative Club (Ely Rise)

The Stable Block to Fairwater Conservative Club, located on Ely Rise, is a rectangular building dating from the 19th century. It is constructed of roughly coursed, rock-faced, dark grey/brown sandstone with Bath stone dressings, topped by a Welsh slate gabled roof. The gable ends each feature two trefoil-headed lancets with 4-light pierced panelling above, adorned with carved stone bird finials. The long sides of the building face south-west and north-east.

On the south-east elevation, there is a gabled bay with a bargeboard in the center, although the gable features are new. At the south end, a stone stair leads up to a door with a gabled head. Some of the ground floor windows and doors are in original stable openings, but the joinery is new. The upper floor window and all three dormers are also new.

The north-east elevation was originally blind, with the roof descending lower and featuring stone eaves corbels. It now has a lean-to that masks the right-hand half, which includes windows and a door, with a window to the left. Above, there are two gabled dormers and a central two-flued stack, of which only the stack is original.

The interior was not available for resurvey but has been completely altered due to its conversion to domestic use.
