Description
The flight of steps and retaining wall at the east side of Insole Court, known as the Bowling Green Terrace, is a Grade II listed structure. The retaining wall, made of squared coursed limestone with dressed coping, rises to about 1 meter above the lawn. It features a stepped section at the top on either side of a central flight of twelve steps leading down to the lower garden. The steps are flanked by arcaded ramped balustrading, which includes square piers at both the top and bottom. These piers have moulded bases and display alternating vermiculated and reeded blocks, topped with wreathed Ionic capitals, one of which retains its ball finial.
