Description
Lansdowne Road School, Juniors, is a two-storey building constructed from Newbridge sandstone rubble in thin courses, with Bath stone dressings, brick chimney stacks, and Welsh slate roofs. Designed in the Elizabethan style, the school features a balanced six-bay elevation facing the street. The second and fifth bays are recessed, while the forward bays are gabled. Each inner bay has a 4-light window on the ground floor, and the first and sixth bays have 5-light windows. Some windows still have their original small panes, while others have been replaced with plate glass.
The two central bays display a band of trefoils between the windows and a triple coat-of-arms in the gable. These gables are connected by a 4-centred arch that bears the inscription "LANSDOWNE ROAD SCHOOLS." The gables on the first and sixth bays feature panels with four coats-of-arms. All four gables include a stone ventilator at the apex, with the central gables retaining their tall finials. The building has steeply pitched roofs with tall brick stacks that have stone bands and weathered tops. The return elevations are blind, except for paired 3-light windows on the upper floor. The rear elevation has not been seen. The interior has not been observed during the recent survey.
