Description
The war memorial is made of pale ashlar and features a tall, slender, tapering monument set on a base with four steps. Each of the four sides has a main panel that projects forward, creating a 12-sided plan at the base. The panel facing the road junction displays a bronze plaque within a pedimented stone surround, listing the names of those who died in the First World War from 1914 to 1918. The side facing Newport Road has a similar panel that lists the names of those who died in the Second World War. At the top, above a bracketed cornice and plinth, each side features pilasters that rise to an open pediment, which incorporates inscriptions on three of the faces: "FRANCE ITALY," "GALLIPOLI SALONIKA," and "MESOPOTAMIA PALESTINE," all topped by a wreath. Above this is a small octagonal cupola with blind panels, a dome, and a tiered urn finial.
