Description

Lychgate at entry to Church Lane. Timber-framed with slate gabled roof side-on to road, red tile ridge and elaborate crowning metal cruciform finial; supported at each end by tall wooden posts with shaped braces; stone plinth. Interior of roof is boarded and the thick rafters are scalloped at ends. Two wood-framed gates, each 3 panels wide and 2 deep, of open cusped wooden panelling to the upper row and of metalwork below, long metal hinges. Lock rails of gates have continuous inscription on E side: "Arglwydd par i mi wybod, fi niwedd, a pheth yw mesur/fy nyddiau, fel y gwypwyf o ba oedran y byddaf fi;" W side inscribed with translation : "Lord, make me to know mine end, and the measure/of my days, what it is , that I may know how frail I am" (Psalm 39, v 4). Similar smaller pedestrian gates either side.
