Description

St Quintin's Castle, also known as Llanblethian Castle, features a gatehouse that is set forward from the curtain wall. It is constructed from local grey lias stone, with buff Sutton stone used for the dressings. The gatehouse has a central Gothic archway, which includes provisions for a portcullis, and is flanked by towers that have splayed corners. At the ground floor level, there are cruciform arrow loops, although most of the dressed stone from the windows and upper loops has been lost. There is also a smaller arch on the rear face of the gatehouse. The remains of the curtain wall enclose an irregular quadrilateral area measuring about 52 meters by 50 meters, with the foundations of towers located at the northern and southern angles of the gatehouse, and a turret to the northwest. In the center of the enclosure, there are the remains of a 12th-century keep.
