Description

Hayes Farm Windmill is a stone tower mill that includes an attached granary and barn. The windmill tower is constructed from coursed rubble limestone, with some areas covered in render, and it is missing its cap. At two-thirds of the way up the tower, there are iron joists from a former gantry, along with a blocked access on the north side. The west side features two windows, one above the other, while the east side has one window and a doorway. On the south side, there is a door that opens at first floor level into the granary.

The granary and barn create a long rectangular range that is now roofless, built from rubble stone with red brick dressings and mostly featuring cambered-arched openings. There are tall round-headed threshing arches facing each other towards the center. The building originally had two floors, with the granary located to the west and the barn to the east. Lower extensions are present at each end, with cartsheds positioned at right angles. Remnants of other buildings can be found to the south and west, including a single-storey range to the west. The farmhouse is located on the opposite side of Hayes Road.

Inside the tower, the hurst frame still holds two pairs of stones and stone nuts. The drive post remains intact, complete with a wallower and spur wheel, and another drive passes through the wall.
