Description

The Former Supply Reserves Depot Gatehouse and Gatepiers is a modernist single-storey building constructed in red brick. It features a flat roof made of a concrete slab, which is highlighted by a brick parapet above. The façade is symmetrical, with a central entrance that projects and has curved sides. The central doorway is framed with raised bricks and has a soldier course lintel above it. On either side of the doorway are curved window openings, each with thick concrete lintels and sills. The side doors in the façade have been partly infilled with modern materials to convert them into windows while retaining the concrete lintels. The corresponding doorways at the rear have been completely infilled. The rear elevation includes two additional central lights that share an unbroken concrete lintel and sill, featuring six-pane steel frames separated by brick. Each side elevation has two steel frame windows. An exterior roof access ladder on the south elevation has been removed, and the front door has been replaced with a modern version. A secondary mono-pitch roof was added around 2009.

Immediately southwest of the gatehouse are four original gatepiers. The taller inner pair flanks the road, with a shorter gatepier beside each to mark pedestrian access. These gatepiers are constructed of brick laid in a rat trap bond and topped with squat pyramidal concrete capstones. The original gates and railings have been replaced.

Inside, there is an entrance lobby with the main rooms located on either side. The central passageway that links the two rooms behind the lobby has been subdivided. Two central WCs are positioned against the rear wall. The building has been refurbished for office use, with the north-facing windows blocked off internally. The front lobby features curved window opening niches, retaining steel bars on the northwest-facing window.
