Description

Bonvilston Cottage is a two-storey Regency house with rendered elevations and a slated hipped roof featuring two gable stacks and three axial stacks. The building has an oblong plan with a central ridge and a hipped wing running north to south at the west end. It showcases bracketed eaves and is three bays wide, with three twelve-pane sash windows with horns on the front first floor. The ground floor has three sets of French doors set behind a colonnade of six Ionic columns topped with a slated lean-to roof. This colonnade wraps around the east elevation, leading to a front entrance that is set back from the main façade. The front door is four-panelled, with the lower two panels flush, and is framed by a wide reeded timber architrave.

On the rear elevation, there are three twelve-pane sashes on the first floor, with additional sashes on the ground floor and a Roman Doric colonnade, which may be a later addition. The downhill gable end is slate-hung. The projecting west wing has a steeply pitched slated lean-to roof on the ground floor, with French doors beneath. The property has been substantially extended to the east and northeast with late 19th century and 20th century additions, including a self-contained annex to the east. The building was not accessible at the time of inspection in May 1995.
