Description

Lodge Cottage is a 19th-century lodge built in the Tudorbethan style. It features coursed squared rubble construction with a plinth and freestone dressings, topped by a tiled roof that has gable parapets and octagonal chimney stacks with star-shaped caps, including a pair located midway down the front slope. The building is single storey with an attic and has a three-bay front that faces west, highlighted by a tall gabled projection at the center which contains the main entrance. The roof slopes down low to the right over a narrow window, while a cross frame window is positioned to the left. The center features a two-light casement window above a four-centred arch door with a freestone surround, which is stepped to include a heraldic emblem. The corners of the ground floor are splayed, with narrow windows and broad spur bases.

The north gable end, which faces the drive, has more pronounced splayed corners with heavy wave moulding, a central cross frame window, a two-light window above, and diamond leaded glazed windows at the corners. At the rear, to the left, there is a gable with a three-light ground floor window. In the rear garden, there is a fragmentary stone gable end, believed to be part of a medieval first-floor hall.

The interior details were not available during the resurvey, but a previous description noted a central staircase and a Bath stone chimneypiece with a deeply bracketed cornice in the main left-hand room.
