Description
Great House is a Grade II listed building featuring a cement-rendered exterior with stone quoin strips on the main range, which is rendered over a plat band at the first floor level. The building has Welsh slate roofs, stone gable copings, and end stacks. It stands two storeys and an attic high for the main range, while the older range on the left is two storeys.
The main elevation has four windows, which are sashes with 6 over 6 panes set in keyed architraves. The attic features three small ogee-headed 'Gothic' casements, each with 3 x 2 panes. There is a square-headed door opening with a fanlight above, leading to a Victorian panelled door and a large Tuscan porch. The roof is steeply pitched, with an attic window in the right gable.
To the left, there is a lower height wing that is two storeys and has two windows. This section is the 17th-century part of the house, which was originally entered from the right gable. It has Victorian sashes with two over two panes in keyed architraves, a steeply pitched roof with a left gable stack, and an attic window beside it. There is also an additional lean-to extension on the left.
The rear elevation has not been seen but is reported to include a bake-house. Although the interior was not available during the resurvey, it is said to feature an elaborate timber staircase in a rear projection of the main range, while the service range includes a stone fire stair and stop-chamfered beams.
