Description

The Church of St. John the Evangelist is a small single-cell church built from roughly coursed and squared local limestone rubble, featuring Bath stone dressings and a Welsh slate roof. It has diagonal buttresses and is designed in the Decorated style. The church includes a west bellcote, an integral chancel, a south porch, and a north organ chamber.

On the south wall, there are three windows and a steeply gabled porch situated between the first and second windows from the left. The porch has a pointed arch with a dripmould, gable coping, and an apex cross. The two-light windows are set in square-headed recesses and feature reticulated tracery with dripmoulds above. The east gable wall displays a 3-light window with cusped heads and quatrefoils, while the west wall has a 2-light window that is flush with the wall. The north wall is blind. Both gables are coped, with a small bellcote featuring a cross and bell on the west gable and a cross on the east gable.

Inside, the church has a plain but very unaltered appearance, with plastered and painted walls and a low-pitched waggon roof. The 2-centred arch in the north wall leading to the organ chamber is likely an alteration. Most furnishings are contemporary, with the exception of the font, which dates to 1682, the reredos from 1903, and the later panelling surrounding it.
