Description

Plas-y-Bwlch is a Grade II listed building featuring roughcast rubble stone and a slate roof, with rendered stone stacks. The building's long axis runs down a hill slope, comprising a 17th-century cottage on the downhill side and a longer 19th-century addition above. It is one and a half storeys high and has a three-window range.

On the left, the 17th-century cottage has a separate roof and a single gabled dormer that aligns with a ground floor window opening, featuring casement pairs and painted stone sills. The right side showcases the 19th-century range, which has a higher roof and includes a large stack at the roof junction and a smaller stack at the far right of the front roof, both with simple oversailing courses. The doorway is offset to the left, aligning with the left stack to create a lobby entry with a boarded door. To the right, there are two gabled dormers that correspond with ground floor windows. The end-gable walls are roughcast, and the rear features an outshut with 20th-century rooflights, a gabled dormer above a ground floor window, and another boarded door.

Inside, the lobby entry leads to a recess in the chimney wall opposite. The stone slab floor is present throughout. The 17th-century cottage contains a pre-1939 enamel kitchen range, plain chamfered beams with hollow stops, and chamfered joists with straight cut stops on the ceiling. A fine spiral stone staircase leads to the fireplace. The 19th-century addition includes a parlour with a broad fireplace opening measuring approximately 2.5 metres wide, featuring a cambered wooden overmantle and a cast iron range marked 'J. Davies, Llangollen'.
