Description
Hafod Bilston is a 17th-century house that was originally designed with a gable entry and a lateral chimney. The building is constructed of rubble stone and features a slate roof with a brick cap on the stone stack. It has two storeys and an attic. The west gable front includes four-light stone mullion windows with splayed mouldings and dripmoulds. The first-floor window is larger than those on the attic or ground floor. There is a dressed-stone Tudor-arched doorway on the right side of the ground floor, which is now blocked, and has a plain chamfer with run-out stops. The lateral stack on the north side is gabled, featuring stone coping and kneelers, and has a single-light window with leaded panes at its base. To the right of the stack, there are 20th-century casement pairs above and below, followed by a two-light mullion window on the first floor. To the left of the stack, a single-storey gabled wing provides a modern entry to the house. The east gable has a 20th-century casement pair in the upper gable, with a blocked one-light 17th-century opening to the right. Below, there is a three-light mullion window on the first floor, and the ground floor features a casement pair on the right and a double casement pair with a central mullion on the left, both with large rectangular stone lintels. The south side presents an irregular composition, including two two-light mullions, a later casement window, 20th-century glazed ground-floor doors, and a 20th-century conservatory.
The interior has been significantly modified. The ground-floor hall includes chamfered beams with straight-cut stops and a deep fireplace recess. The staircase is not in its original position.
