Description
The Old School House is a two-storey building with a single depth plan and an added rear wing. It features colourwashed plastered cladding, likely over local rubblestone, and a Welsh slate gabled roof, which was previously thatched, topped with red ridge tiles.
The main elevation faces north-west and consists of three bays. On the first floor, there are three iron framed windows with iron glazing bars, each four panes wide, with the center portions opening outwards. The ground floor has one similar window, along with a modern window and a modern gabled porch. A large rubble chimney stack is located on the left gable end, while another stack is positioned in front of the ridge on the right gable end. The left gable end is blind, including the later wing, while the right gable features an external stone stair leading to an upper hall door, which has been replaced by an iron framed window that is seven panes wide with two opening sections. This gable section has a lower ridge and another iron window with a central opening casement in the gable end. The rear elevation has been entirely rewindowed with factory-made timber casements.
The interior was not available for inspection during the resurvey. However, records from the Royal Commission on the Ancient and Historical Monuments of Wales indicate that the upper floor originally consisted of a single large unheated chamber. The ground floor contained two chambers with straight-cut stops, fillet, and stop-chamfered beams. The hall features a large fireplace and a bread oven.
