Description
The Porthkerry Railway Viaduct, located partly in the Barry community, is a notable structure built with coursed quarry-faced grey stone and features brick arch rings. It has sixteen semi-circular arches of irregular spans, supported by tall tapering stone piers that have plinths of varying heights. The brick arches reach a maximum height of approximately 30 metres. Above every second pier, there is a stone parapet with corbelled refuges. The viaduct spans the steep valley of the stream that forms the eastern boundary of the Rhoose Community.
