Description
One of a double row of terraced houses facing each other across pavements, road, and a narrow green. The houses were built in pairs, with a door to the side, one window above, and one to the ground floor, sharing a central stack and roofline. The roofline steps accommodate the rising ground between each pair. They are built of roughly dressed ironstone, with each opening bordered by large stones and massive single lintels, with some brick detailing to the stacks. Originally, the roofs were covered in Welsh slate, though most are now replaced with concrete tiles, and have blue brick ridge tiles. The original windows were 8/8 pane sashes, a few of which remain, with later adaptations including some horned sashes; most of the glazing is now late 20th-century PVC-U, though the original openings and deep sills are unaltered. The rear elevations originally had similar window arrangements, and were shown on an Ordnance Survey map of 1875 without rear extensions, although these are now common. Few dividing fences exist between properties, but each double plot originally had a separate stone and slate WC and coal shed, many of which survive in adapted form. At each terrace end, except the southeast end, there is a later house that differs from the standard pattern.
One end-of-terrace house was added later, on a larger plot with no street entrance. It features a tooled ashlar frontage and a rendered side with an ashlar stack. It appears on an Ordnance Survey map of 1875 and shows a small outshut. The house is slightly larger and grander than the rest.
