Description
Jerusalem Baptist Chapel is a simple classical style chapel built with a pebble-dashed front, roughcast side and rear walls, and a slate roof. The gable-end front features cement render quoins and dressings that are integrated with the pebble dash. In the center, there are a pair of round-headed windows with small-pane glazing in their original openings, above which is a tablet with an elliptical sandstone panel that displays the name and date of the chapel. There are doorways on the left and right with boarded doors and plain overlights. A tall round-headed window is located in the right side wall, while a similar window in the left wall is now blocked, along with a former pair of round-headed windows at the rear.
Inside, there is a three-sided raked gallery supported by plain cast iron piers. The front of the gallery features panelled fretwork above a corbel table. The deal benches, which have moulded ends, date from the early 20th century. The ceiling is simply ribbed and boarded. The pulpit is flanked by steps with ornate moulded and fluted newels, and it has cast iron twisted balusters and scrolled brackets. The baptistery is enclosed by rails with similar newels and balusters and contains a well beneath the floorboards.
