Description
Pontrhydyfen Viaduct is a ten-arch railway viaduct built of red brick, which curves slightly towards the northwest. It features tall round arches supported by narrow splayed piers, with the arches made up of six rows of headers laid on edge. There are short abutments at both ends of the structure. A blue brick string course runs along the top, and the red brick parapets include corbelled refuges that rise from the spandrels of the arches. The coping is primarily made of blue bricks set on end, although some areas have been replaced with concrete. The flat deck has been converted into a path, and the refuges have been infilled with blue brick topped with concrete coping. At each end of the deck, there are pairs of short piers that mark the abutments, and these, along with the spaces in between, are capped with massive rock-faced stones.
