Description
This is a long, single-arched railway bridge located near Crythan Farm, partly in the Briton Ferry and Neath communities. The bridge is constructed from narrowly-coursed sandstone, featuring a stone arch that springs directly from the rock faces on either side. It is distinctive for its steep pitch from end to end and from side to side, with the arch beginning at a much higher position on the south side than on the north. The stone coursing runs parallel with the deck for most of its length but is steepened at the south end to balance the uneven loading on the arch. At deck level, there is a broad string course, and the bridge has curving stone parapets that have been recently rebuilt, now featuring round copings instead of the previous flat stone copings.
