Description
Gelli Galed Farmhouse is a low two-storey building with a three-window east front. It features low rendered stacks and walls made of rendered and whitewashed rubble stone, which originally had a long slated roof that has mostly collapsed. The farmhouse has recessed two-light casement windows and a porch with a pitched roof. The north gable includes a corbelled chimney above the ground floor. On the south end, there is a projecting cow house cross range with a ventilation slit low in the angle and a collapsed slate roof that was originally supported by A-frame trusses. To the west, there is a 19th-century cartshed. The property is enclosed by rubble stone walls, with a tree-lined approach.
The interior of the main house is not accessible due to the roof collapse over most of the building. However, it is said to include chamfered main beams on the ground floor, with the older parts featuring broach stops. There is an arched "porch" door through the south wall of the hall, flanking the original flue, and the remains of a turning staircase. The floors are stone flagged throughout, with D-frame trusses and large chimney breasts within the gable end walls. A later lean-to extension along the west side contained an 18th-century dairy with stone slab benches.
