Description
The Cefn Coed Colliery chimney and boiler house flue is a notable structure made of red brick, primarily circular in shape and slightly tapering towards the top, which features a convex cornice located about 2 to 3 meters below the summit. The base of the chimney has a hipped design, resulting in a wider octagonal ground plan. On the north side, there is a blocked doorway with a semi-circular arch made of brick voussoirs, while the rear (east side) has a large iron door and control machinery. Attached to the base of the chimney at the rear is a large brick flue that runs north and rises from the boiler house. There is also a blocked access door at the southwest end. This chimney and flue were used to serve six Lancashire boilers located in the adjacent buildings, which provided steam to operate the winding engines.
